Topwood have seen an increase in demand for confidential shredding caused by the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that came into force on 25th May as part of the new Data Protection Act 2018. Organisations have recognised that confidential shredding is a key component when staying compliant with GDPR, particularly high security shredding.
Topwood Security Shredding has seen a steady increase in demand for mobile on-site shredding services, particularly in Telford, Birmingham, and Wrexham. In order to respond to the increase in demand, Topwood have added a new shred truck to their fleet of high security mobile on-site shred trucks. The new truck is in build and will start shredding on-site in October 2018.
Data security has never been more important. Under data protection laws organisations must take all the technical and organisational measures to comply with data protection laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Off-site shredding is a secure process when done professionally but many organisations do not have time or the resources to audit the shredding company’s facility for shredding. However, on-site destruction, where documents and data are destroyed before they leave the customers’ workplace offer the shortest ‘chain of custody’ and so by definition is the safest.
Topwood have selected another MDX shred truck and as the model name denotes the truck has cross cutting capability. Topwood’s entire mobile shred fleet will consist of cross cut shredders. Cross cut shredding meets the stringent security standards required by the NHS, MOD and other Government departments. On-site, cross cut shredding provides customers with the maximum protection against data breaches.
“Modern shred trucks work faster and cut smaller which increases their operating efficiency” explains Topwood’s MD Tom Gilruth… “With our customer base in the west midlands and Birmingham increasing the purchase of another MDX shred truck increases our capacity by lowering time on-site. The trucks literally shred paper documents at the rate at which they can be loaded!”
The MDX model is currently in build and Topwood will soon be recruiting and training a shredding crew to operate the truck. All potential staff have to be security vetted and once cleared, training to operate the state of the art shred trucks can commence.
As well as security improvements the shred truck’s improved efficiency will reduce its environmental impact too. With a capacity of 2500kg per hour and a payload of 6 tonnes the truck will lower its environmental impact due to shredding times being faster. The new truck will be Euro 6 compliant so it will be suitable for low emission zones (LEZs). With its cleaner engines, lower noise and less time spent on-site the truck will be ideal for servicing city and town centre offices shredding in West Midlands and Birmingham, Shrewsbury, Telford and many other cities.
Planning is in place to recruit a new shredding crew. All new staff are security vetted to BS7858 prior to their engagement and will receive training for the safe handling of confidential information. For more information contact sales@topwoodltd.co.uk.
